Our Commitment to a Greener Future
At Hallwood Park Primary School and Nursery, we are passionate about looking after our planet. Our Climate Action Plan guides us as we make positive, eco friendly changes that benefit our school, our community, and the wider world.
We are lucky to have such an amazing site, full of opportunities for outdoor learning and sustainability projects. Here are some of the ways we are making a difference:
Our Wonderful Grounds
-
Pond and Wildlife – Our school pond is home to a wide variety of animals, including ducks, insects, and even rare newts. Children love exploring and learning about biodiversity right on their doorstep.
-
Allotment and Gardening Club – With the help of our expert volunteer gardener (trained by the RHS), pupils grow their own fruit and vegetables. Apples, pears, and seasonal crops are harvested and then used to cook simple, healthy recipes.
-
Gardening Together – Parents, children, and volunteers all work hard to keep our gardens and outdoor spaces thriving. It is a true community effort.
Sustainable Choices
-
Reducing Plastic – Every child has their own reusable water bottle, helping us cut down on single use plastics.
-
Composting and Recycling – We compost food waste, recycle wherever possible, and look for ways to reduce unnecessary packaging.
-
Cleaner Energy – We are upgrading to LED lighting, running Switch Off campaigns, and planning exciting water saving projects like rainwater harvesting and water butts.
Learning for the Future
-
Outdoor Learning – Lessons often take place outside, helping children connect with nature while reducing energy use indoors.
-
Eco Education – From biodiversity surveys to sustainability themed assemblies, children learn why protecting the environment matters and how they can play their part.
-
Hands On Projects – Our pupils take part in activities like building insect hotels, planting trees, and joining national initiatives such as the RSPB Birdwatch.
Our Vision
We believe small actions add up to big changes. By working together, children, staff, parents, and our wider community, we are building a cleaner, greener, and more sustainable future for Hallwood Park and beyond.
